The King St. Cycle Shop and adjoining storage buildings at 18 West King St. were gutted by a fire that also spread to a nearby apartment building on King St. and one on North Main St. Sixteen apartments were ruined and three storage buildings were leveled. Four additional storeroom were damages in the fire that took firemen over 4 hours to bring under control. They were credited with saving the whole block from going up in flames.
