A large fire destroyed the brick and frame bank barn owned by E. J. Bonebrake. The barn was located just north of Augustus Wolf’s property, and sent sparks and firebrands as far away as the CVRR shops off Broad St, setting many roofs afire. All the companies responded, but the CV’s hose reel broke a spoke on the way and they were out of service. It was G Fred Gibbs last fire as Chief Engineer, and there is a photo of him standing on the ruined structure a few days later. His handwritten note on the back of the photo tells the story.
