Overnight working fire on Broad Street

Company 1 and mutual aid companies were dispatched to the 700 block of Broad Street for a reported kitchen fire. Engine 1-1 arrived on scene and reported a 2½-story duplex with smoke showing from the second floor. Crews deployed a 2-inch attack line and made entry through the rear of the structure. Upon entry, firefighters encountered fire throughout the kitchen and heavy hoarding conditions within the residence. Chief 1 (Ulrich) arrived on scene, initiated the working fire dispatch, and established Command 1. Firefighters quickly contained and extinguished the fire before beginning overhaul operations to check for extension and ensure the fire was fully extinguished. All residents were able to safely evacuate the structure prior to the arrival of the fire department. No injuries were reported. Fire department personnel remained on scene for approximately three hours, completing suppression, overhaul, and other necessary operations before returning to service.
