CFD units and mutual aid were alerted to the 900 block of Wayne Avenue just before 6 PM for a report of smoke inside a laundromat. Assistant Chief 1 (Myers) arrived on scene and reported normal conditions from the exterior.
Upon arrival, CFD crews began investigating the interior of the building but found no visible smoke or unusual odors. Members checked the appliances throughout the building and confirmed there was no fire. Command 1 held the assignment to Company 1 to conduct an additional sweep of the building before clearing the scene. C Shift remained busy throughout the day, responding to several additional incidents. Earlier in the day, crews were dispatched to a possible building fire in the 900 block of Lincoln Way East. Units arrived to find a brush fire at a residence behind a business, and the assignment was held to Company 1. Crews also handled a vehicle accident in the 500 block of Poplar Avenue and a fire alarm in the 800 block of Fifth Avenue.
