Just after 4 PM, Engine 1-1 and Ambulance 1-9 were dispatched to the 1100 block of Lincoln Way East for a reported two-vehicle accident.
Ambulance 1-9 arrived on scene and confirmed two vehicles were involved. While checking for injuries, crews discovered one occupant was trapped inside a vehicle. Engine 1-1 arrived and positioned the apparatus to block the scene while crews began stabilizing the vehicle. Tower 1 was also requested to assist. Once the vehicle was stabilized, the crew from Engine 1-1 utilized the department’s combi-tool to remove the door and gain access to the trapped occupant. Ambulance 1-9 handled patient care while crews from Engine 1-1 and Tower 1 cleared debris and mitigated fluids from the roadway. Engine 1-1 remained on scene for approximately 45 minutes, assisting with traffic control until the vehicles were removed and the roadway was cleared.
