: The largest fire in Shippensburg history pulls the Chambersburg firefighters and apparatus north. The fire destroyed 4 businesses on East King St. and threatened to take the entire block. All 5 Borough companies responded. A Shippensburg fireman, Mervin Fogelsanger, collapsed at the scene and died. Firemen worked for 2.5 hours just to bring the blaze under control.
