Engine 1-2 and Tower 1 were dispatched to the 1500 block of Orchard Drive in the Borough of Chambersburg for an automatic fire alarm. While en route, units were advised that multiple alarms had been received, including activation of the building’s sprinkler water-flow alarm.
Engine 1-2 arrived to find a single-story commercial restaurant with smoke showing from the roof area. Crews made entry through the Charlie-side door and encountered smoke banked down to the floor. Based on the conditions found, the Box assignment was upgraded.
Tower 1 arrived and established Command 1 until the arrival of Chief 1 (Ulrich). Crews deployed an attack line and made entry through the Charlie side, ultimately locating a fire involving a dryer and the surrounding area. The building’s sprinkler system had activated and successfully kept the fire under control prior to the arrival of the fire department.
Crews quickly extinguished the remaining fire and began ventilation operations. Additional mutual aid companies arrived and assisted with search and ventilation operations.
Command 1 ultimately held the assignment to Company 1 and Squad 41. Crews remained on scene until the arrival of the Building Inspector and State Fire Marshal, after which units cleared the scene and returned to service.
