CFD crews handle smoke inside on Birch St.

CFD units and mutual aid were alerted to the 200 block of Birch St. for smoke inside a residence. Franklin County 911 advised that the caller reported an odor, and while on the phone, began to see smoke, and the fire alarm was activating. Engine 1-2 arrived, with normal conditions from the outside. Engine 1-1 arrived just behind, advancing a hoseline to the front door, and beginning to investigate. Chief 1 arrived and assumed Command 1 while units investigated. The assignment was quickly scaled back to Company 1 only. Crews located a malfunctioning indoor HVAC unit and secured the power to it. Nothing additional was needed, and Company 1 units became available.
