As devastating storms started to impact the Greater Chambersburg Area, CFD
and surrounding departments were alerted to the area of 229 Phoenix Drive for a reported house on fire. Initial calls reported a house on fire across
from that residence. While units pulled into that area, calls were received from the homeowner at 955 Spring Lane who reported the house was struck by
lightning and smoke was coming from the house. This information put the address directly across from 229 Phoenix Drive. With Engine 1-1 committed on another
call, Squad 41 arrived and tried to proceed back the drive and found there was no apparatus access. Engine 1-4 and the Tower arrived and once crews overcame
access issues, they stretched lines and made it to the home. Crews found a fire in the attic that had self-extinguished, but a significant amount of hotspots
still remained. Command (C1) downgraded the assignment after 20 minutes and held the box to Company 1, Station 4, and Engine 17-1. Crews remained on scene for
around an hour and a half completing salvage and overhaul. |
