Shortly before 5 p.m., the box alarm went out for a multi-dwelling fire at 37 West Washington Street sending
CFD and surrounding departments. Engine 1-4 arrived within four minutes and found a well-advanced fire on the second floor of an apartment building. Crews advanced lines inside and
encountered high heat and fire on the second floor landing. Chief 1 arrived, assumed command, and requested a second alarm assignment. Initial interior crews battled the fire for
around ten minutes before evacuated due to advancing conditions. A third alarm was requested just after 5:30 p.m. due to hot weather conditions. Over seventy firefighters assisted,
and crews remained on scene over four hours.
