Monday keeps crews Busy

Multiple incidents kept CFD crews busy starting Monday morning and making its way through the afternoon.

Shortly before 4 AM, Engine 1-1 was sent to the 500 block of Gateway Ave for a mulch fire. Engine 1-1 arrived and located a smoldering fire in the mulch. The crew wet down the area and ensured there was no hidden fire before clearing.

0850 hrs fire units were out the door again to the unit block of West Washington Street for an elevator rescue. Units arrived and located the elevator had malfunctioned and trapped two individuals inside. Crews were able to quickly access the elevator car and free the individuals. The elevator was placed out of service until it could be repaired.

At 1028 hrs, units from HQ handled a fire alarm in the 200 block of Walker Road. Units arrived to find contractors working on renovations that accidentally activated the alarm.

CFD units handled an odor in the building call at 14 North Main Street just before 1400 hrs. Crews arrived and met with the Sheriff's deputies advising the odor was from a portrait being done in the entrance way. Crews confirmed no ventilation needs and returned.

At 1510 hrs, CFD and mutual aid were sent to the 100 block of East Catherine Street for a reported appliance fire. Engine 1-2 arrived during dispatch to find normal conditions from the home. Crews found a stove that had been on fire but extinguished by the resident prior to Fire Dept arrival. Crews secured the stove and naturally ventilated before going in service.

Units responded to the South end of the Borough a little after 1600 hrs for a fire alarm. Units responded to the 1400 block of Sheffler Dr, finding a large commercial building with normal conditions. Crews met employees that were on site advising of a previous water leak in the building and the sprinkler company just leaving. Crews found no abnormal conditions inside and turned it over to their maintenance personnel.

Crews handled 6 EMS calls during this time as well.
