1st day of June makes for a busy day
The 1st day of June kept CFD crews busy with 24 calls. Crews handled 14 EMS calls, 3 Medical assist calls, 3 vehicle accidents, 2 mulch fires, a building fire and a house fire. Between calls, crews handled several fire inspections and a safety inspection at the Aquatic Center.
At 1243 hrs. Engine 1-1 and Engine 1-2 were sent to the 100 block of Beechwood Lane for a mulch fire. Asst. Chief 1 arrived and found a smoldering fire about a foot away from the house. Crews raked up the mulch and wet down the area before clearing.
As units were clearing from the mulch fire, Tower 1 was sent as part of the 1st alarm to the 11900 block of Buchanan Trail West (Company 9 1st due) for a reported building fire. Company 9 units arrived with a fire on the exterior of the building and were able to quickly extinguish it. Tower 1 was placed in service before arrival.
At 1317 hrs Engine 1-2 and Engine 1-1 were out the door again for another mulch fire, this one in the 900 block of Wayne Avenue. Asst. Chief 1 arrived and a small area burned and held Engine 1-2. The area was wet down before clearing.
1349 hrs Engine 1-1 and Tower 1 were sent as part of the 2nd alarm assignment to the 10000 block of Cardinal Drive (Company 11). Company 11 were initially sent for a porch fire and had fire throughout the home shortly after arrival. Tower 1 arrived and sent manpower to staging for a short time before being placed in service. Engine 1-1 arrived and established a secondary water supply. The Engine reverse laid 900 feet of supply line to a nearby pond. Engine 1-1 eventually ended up being the primary supply to the scene.
While units were on scene of the house fire, Engine 1-2 responded to the 800 block of Wayne Ave for a vehicle accident. Chief 1 arrived with two vehicles in the roadway. Crews secured the vehicles and assisted with patient care before going in service.
At 2130 hrs CFD units were sent to the 600 block of Lincoln Way East for a vehicle accident with reported entrapment. Engine 1-1 and Ambulance 1-7 arrived with two autos blocking the roadway. Crews confirmed negative entrapment. Crews handled patient care and debris clean up before being placed in service by Chief 1.
At 2200 hrs Engine 1-1 was sent to the unit block of West Washington Street for a vehicle accident. Crews arrived to find one vehicle that had struck a roll off dumpster. The Engine crew assisted with patient care and clean up.
