Industrial Accident

CFD units and Squad 41 were sent just before 11 to the 400 block of 5th Ave for an industrial accident. Ambulance 1-9 and Asst. Chief 1 arrived during dispatch and directed in by staff to the patient. Crews located the patient trapped between a rail cart and conveyor belt. Crews from CFD began to assess the equipment involved. Squad 41 arrived and crews began to set up their plasma cutter and stabilize the equipment. Torches on site were utilized by Engine 1-1 crew to assist cutting the large steel members, as well as rail jacks from the site to raise portions of the conveyor systems. During this incident additional resources were requested and responded to assist. Well-Flight 2-8 was requested and landed near the scene with Engine 1-2 handling the landing zone. Fayetteville Fire Co. and West End Fire Rescue were both requested to assist with additional manpower due to the labor intensive rescue efforts that were underway. Maryland State Police Trooper 1 was also requested to the scene along with the Shock Trauma Go-Team to assist with medical care. Crews operated for an extended amount of time to successfully extricate the patient and hand off to the flight crew for transport to a trauma center.
