At 1032 hrs CFD units and mutual aid were sent to the 100 block of South Second Street for a reported house fire. As units were responding, CPD was on the scene reporting smoke visible from several doors. Engine 1-2 arrived on scene with smoke visible from the front door. Asst. Chief 1 reported smoke and fire from the rear window on the completion of their 360. Crews simultaneously pulled two lines, sending one through the front door and one to the rear. Tower 1 arrived and threw ground ladders and assisted with ventilation needs. Mutual aid units arrived and assisted with searches and opening up for the engine crews. The fire was quickly brought under control and crews worked to ensure there was no extension to other apartments. Crews continued to operate for almost 2 1/2 hours working with Chambersburg PD and the State Police Fire Marshal on the origin and cause investigation. One individual was later arrested for arson from the fire.
